Anystudent unsure about a topic choice should contact me to discuss it. Please be careful tochoose a topic that is not too narrow (i.e. difficult to write 2,500-3,000 words about it) ortoo broad (i.e. difficult to adequately cover the topic in 2,500-3,000 words).2. The paper should be structured as follows:a. A first section that introduces and provides background information on thespecific reform(s).b. A second section that analyzes the reform(s). Appropriate economic theory, economic concepts, and methods are applied as part of the analysis. The analysismay address questions such as:i. What does economic theory predict regarding the reform?ii. What relevant economic concepts help justify the reform or question itslegitimacy?iii. What does data and/or analysis from relevant research indicate about thereform?iv. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the reform(s)?c. A third section that provides a recommendation regarding the reform(s). Therecommendations need to be relevant, feasible, high quality, consider limitations, and be based on a solid theoretical foundation. The recommendations may addressquestions such as:i. Does economic theory as a whole support or not support the reform(s)?ii. Are there any historical and political realities regarding whether thereform(s) will be accepted?iii. Are there unintended consequences to consider regarding the reform(s)?iv. Who may oppose the recommendations and why?v. Does relevant, high-quality evidence suggest that the reform(s) are a netbenefit to the U.S.?d. A brief conclusion that summarizes the paper.3. Papers should conform to and follow APA 7th Edition style and formatting guidelines. The only guideline students should skip is the inclusion of an abstract. To be clear, thepaper should not have an abstract. Please follow all of the other guidelines. Seehttp://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ for information on APA style andformatting guidelines. The font must be Times New Roman size 12. The expectedlength of the body of the paper is 2,500-3,000 words. This is more than enough roomfor students who are concise and choose a topic that is not too wide or too narrow.4. Students should not simply give their opinion. Research should be carefully conducted toback up statements in all sections of their paper with resources that are cited andreferenced using APA 7th edition style.a. Papers should have at least ten outside sources (i.e. sources that are not in thecourse textbook or course notes), which should be formatted according to APA 7thedition style.i. At least four of the sources should be cited within the analysis section ofthe paper.ii. At least four of the sources should be cited within the recommendationssection of the paper.iii. To be clear, each student’s paper must have at least ten separate sourcesand each of the ten separate sources must be cited in the body of the paperand referenced in a list at the end of the paper. The course textbook andcourse notes do not count toward the ten sources. It is not enough to putten sources into a reference list at the end of the paper and never cite thesources within the body of the paper. The ten sources need to be activelyincluded in the body of the paper.iv. Students are expected to cite and reference everything. Outside ofcommonly accepted knowledge, everything in a student’s paper must becited and referenced.
