One is a postpositivist view, and the second is having a recognition of the power the past holds. Ryan (2019, as cited in Danermark et al., 1997) highlighted that Postpositivists argue that knowledge, while fallible, should be based on the best evidence available at the time of enquiry (p. 21). This essentially means there is never a complete possibility to achieve the right amount of knowledge to manage change properly. As Suddaby and Foster (2017) point out, these individuals observe change as a difficult process that can only be brought to success though excessive and constant intervention. The other assumption is recognizing the power of the past. With this idea, the past is used to make a better future. While there is certainly a lesson to be learned in everything, there are occurrences that exist that teach a great deal about what will not work. Verovek (2020) explained this idea through the use of examining the two world wars and the death chambers at Auschwitz. The author explained that these moments could be used to build a better future rather than become relevant again in some capacity. With these assumptions in mind, the focus will now shift to reviewing how organizations have changed over the years. Two ways in which organizations have changed over time have been from a monocultural organization to a multicultural organization and from micro-organizations to macro level organizations which are highlighted by Scott and Davis (2016). Mono-Cultural to Multi-cultural Studies There are many way to identify organizational change. One area that Scott and Davis discussed in depth was the change from mono-cultural to multicultural emphasized in studies. As leadership in organizations continue to grow, there is expanded interests as both technology and modes of travel reduce the gap around the globe. There is a burgeoning growth in many sectors and the boundaries which existed in place before are no longer a deal breaker as they once were. With culture contributing a high amount of influence to the way an organization is viewed, it sheds light on the importance that studies focused on multi-cultural organizations can bring.
